This training guide is intended to guide a multidisciplinary group of people through the tasks involved in establishing or reshaping a domestic violence fatality review process to serve their community's needs and help prevent future deaths from domestic assault in their community.
Abstract
The manual notes that a community may include a municipality, county, region, State, or tribe. The training module aims to help participants identify the critical issues that must be addressed before launching an effective domestic violence fatality review process in a community and work through preliminary decisions on these issues. The module is intended for use with a community team consisting of 7-20 people or more. The module leads the group through a sequence of tasks to consider the crucial preliminary issues, to simulate a review of a hypothetical case of a domestic violence fatality, and to determine what is effective in interventions as well as in team work. The training is organized into three sessions lasting 1.5 to 2.5 hours each. Each session is structured with a worksheet that forms the documentation of the participants' work. The worksheets cover the steps involved in setting up a team, information and confidentiality, and reflecting back and looking ahead. Case materials; forms; checklists; guidelines for planning and conducting the training session; and lists of staff members, officers, and trustees of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges
