Abstract
Highlights from this report on the number of domestic violence incidences in Idaho for the period 2005 through 2010 include the following: 21,287 charges of domestic violence assault/battery were filed during this period, with 63.5 percent adjudicated as domestic violence assault/battery; 96.6 percent of no contact order violations and 93.2 percent of domestic violence protection order violations were prosecuted as such; and the majority of attempted strangulation cases adjudicated as such were dismissed, while almost 56 percent of stalking cases adjudicated as stalking were dismissed. According to police reports, between 2005 and 2010, 27 percent of victims of violent crime were in intimate partner relationships with the offender, with victims of intimate partner violence more likely to experience an injury compared to other victims. In addition, the police reports showed that between 2005 and 2010, 36.4 percent of all homicides were committed between intimate partners, and incidents involving intimate partners were more likely to involve alcohol than incidents involving either family or other relationships. Additional information in the report deals with type of weapon used, charges per offender, case outcomes, victim and offender demographics, trends in victim/offender relationships, and incidences by location and day of the week. Data for this report were obtained from the Idaho Incident Based Reporting System and court filings for all cases of domestic violence assault and battery for the period 2005 through 2010.
