A FATAL CASE OF DOXEPIN (SINEQUAN) POISONING IS REPORTED, AND POST-MORTEM FINDINGS, ANALYTICAL PROCEDURES, AND RESULTS ARE PRESENTED.
Abstract
A PROCEDURE BASED ON GAS LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY HAS BEEN DESCRIBED FOR THE MEASUREMENT OF DOXEPIN. THIS HAS BEEN APPLIED TO TISSUES RECEIVED FROM A FATAL CASE OF DOXEPIN POISONING. AN OPPORTUNITY WAS TAKEN TO ASSESS THE ROUTINE PERFORMANCE OF AN ALKALI FLAME IONIZATION DETECTOR. THIS WAS EXCELLENT PROVIDED CARE WAS TAKEN WITH THE RESTRICTED LINEAR DYNAMIC RANGE OF THIS DETECTOR. THE DRUG LEVELS IN BLOOD FOUND IN THIS CASE WERE IN GOOD AGREEMENT WITH AVAILABLE DATA. A SIMILAR LEVEL WAS OBTAINED IN BRAIN AND ELEVATED DRUG LEVELS WERE OBTAINED IN KIDNEY AND LIVER. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
