This document describes the Driver Risk Inventory (DRI) and summarizes related research so as to provide the reader with an understanding of the DRI and the automated risk and needs assessment system it represents.
Abstract
The DRI is a brief, easily administered and automated (computer scored and interpreted) test specifically designed for use with drunk drivers. The DRI collects information from the client in an objective, valid, and timely manner. It is a multidimensional (five scales) empirically based test that has been researched and standardized on the offender population. The DRI is particularly useful in measuring the degree of severity of driver risk, substance abuse, and stress coping. The DRI uses clear and consistent screening/evaluation criteria and provides a classification system based on these criteria. It yields recommendations based on DRI scores, such that decisionmaking is based on empirical data. This document details the characteristics of the five DRI scales and discusses risk-range categories, stress quotient research, and DRI research. 61 tables and 12 references
