A hearing was held by the House Select Committee on Narcotics Abuse and Control in July 1991 to assess the threat of drug abuse and drug trafficking in New York along the northern U.S. border with Canada.
Abstract
The opening statement reviewed the drug trafficking problem along the U.S.-Canada border, the focus of U.S. drug control efforts along the southern border rather than along the northern border, and the impact of drug trafficking on communities. The opening statement and subsequent testimony examined Federal, State, and local drug law enforcement efforts and the extent of cooperation among government agencies. Hearing witnesses dealt with cocaine and marijuana use in northern New York, drug distribution, drug forfeiture, the link between drugs and crime, cooperation between the United States and Canada, the drug law enforcement environment in New York, drug control strategies and projects, drug abuse education, and drug treatment.
