Abstract
This law, which amended the Drug Abuse Office and Treatment Act of 1972, was designed to bring the legislative authority for the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the White House drug abuse policy mechanisms up to date. The witnesses at the hearing included a former Senator and the first chair of the subcommittee, a representative of the General Accounting Office, and an anonymous witness who spoke of his drug addiction and treatment experiences. In addition, community experts involved in runaway services, rehabilitation programs, and drug treatment program networks, submitted prepared statements.
