SUMMARY OF PATTERNS OF INCIDENCE OF DRUG ABUSE IN POLAND SINCE IT FIRST BECAME A PROBLEM IN 1968.
Abstract
THE STUDY ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THE NUMBER OF DRUG ABUSERS IN THE COUNTRY IS UNKNOWN, BUT ESTIMATES THERE ARE TENS OF THOUSANDS WITH THE PHENOMENON REACHING A PEAK IN 1972. STUDIES OF SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN INDICATE THAT MALES ARE TWICE AS SUSCEPTIBLE TO DRUG ABUSE AS FEMALES. THE MOST FREQUENTLY ABUSED DRUGS IN POLAND ARE MORPHINE, DOLARGAN (PETHIDINE), PANOPTON (PARON), AND CODEINE. SOCIAL DESCENT AND FAMILY INCOME WERE FOUND NOT TO BE FACTORS IN DRUG ABUSE. --IN POLISH.
