Abstract
THIS COLLECTION OF ARTICLES EXAMINES THE POLICE IN ACTION AS THEY ENFORCE NARCOTICS LAWS, DISCUSSES THE CONTAMINATED PRODUCT DRUG DEALERS ACTUALLY SELL, AND SURVEYS THE EXTENT OF DRUG DEALING IN PRISONS AND JUVENILE FACILITIES. COMPREHENSIVE INFORMATION IS OFFERED ABOUT INTERNATIONAL DRUG TRAFFIC, THE EFFECTIVENESS OF INTERVENTION ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS, THE VALUE OF EDUCATION IN DRUG-DEALING PREVENTION, AND THE ROLE OF THE PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY. A DETAILED DISCUSSION IS GIVEN OF THE ADULTERATIONS FOUND IN ILLICIT DRUGS, WITH RESULTS OF NATIONAL AND LOCAL SURVEYS ON YOUNG DRUG USERS' AWARENESS OF THE CONTENTS OF THE DRUGS THEY PURCHASE. A CHAPTER IS ALSO DEVOTED TO MARIJUANA USE, DISTRIBUTION, AND CONTROL. THE SECTION ON POLICING ALLOWS THE READER TO COMPARE ENFORCEMENT OF DRUG LAWS IN A COLLEGE TOWN AND IN A MAJOR CITY. OTHER CHAPTERS DEAL WITH COMMITMENT TO JUVENILE DETENTION CENTERS AND PRISONS FOR DRUG VIOLATIONS, AND POLICY CONSIDERATIONS, SUCH AS SOCIAL RESPONSE TO DRUG PROBLEMS AND CORRECTIONS AND TREATMENT. IN CONCLUSION, BLUM AND HIS ASSOCIATES POINT TO SPECIFIC STEPS THAT CAN BE TAKEN TO CONTROL INTERNATIONAL DRUG TRAFFICKING. (SNI ABSTRACT)
