This report presents the proposed budget for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for fiscal year 1986, together with transcripts of the 1985 congressional hearings on the budget.
Abstract
DEA requested $345,671,000 and 4,564 permanent positions totaling 4,428 work-years for 1986. This represents an increase of $9,177,000 in funding, a decrease of 22 permanent positions, and an increase of 107 work-years over the anticipated 1985 appropriation. The funds will support domestic drug law enforcement; cooperative investigations with foreign countries; and the collection, analysis, and dissemination of drug and drug-related information to support Federal, State, and local enforcement efforts. The budget will also support research; program support through the laboratory analysis of evidence, expert testimony, records management; and overall management and direction. The proposed budget includes a supplemental request for 156 positions to implement the administrative revocation provisions of the 1984 Comprehensive Crime Control Act, other management initiatives and uncontrollable changes, and 22 fewer administrative positions.
