Although marijuana and stimulant use by 8th grade students in the United States declined between 1987 and 1990, marijuana and inhalant use subsequently increased.
Abstract
Results from the 1992 National Survey of Secondary School Students revealed modest but statistically significant increases in drug use by 8th graders. The American Drug and Alcohol Survey found a considerable decline in marijuana use and a smaller drop in stimulant use between 1987 and 1990. After 1990, the use of some drugs was stable while the use of other drugs increased. By 1992-1993, the percentage of 8th graders who said they had tried marijuana and inhalants increased. The importance of effective drug prevention programs is noted. 2 references and 1 figure
