Abstract
The book was intended as an undergraduate and graduate studies text in alcohol and drug abuse studies. It includes data on the international drug trade, criminology, criminal justice, human behavior, juvenile delinquency, law, medicine, sociology, psychology, minority studies, women’s studies, and related disciplines. It is also appropriate reading for social scientists, psychologists, researchers, law enforcement personnel, legislators, and other professionals with an interest in drug- and alcohol-related study. Finally, the book was written for the general reader who wishes to be informed on substance abuse and its often dire implications. The book’s 15 chapters are presented in four sections: Alcohol and Drugs in Society, The Illicit Drug Trade, Substance Abuse and Criminality, and The War on Drugs.
