An anthology of editorials, articles, and cartoons from United States newspapers from 1962 to 1986 discusses the importance of the drug problem, methods of dealing with it, and possible exaggeration of its significance.
Abstract
The varying attitudes toward medicinal uses of heroin and marijuana, legalization of marijuana, and the growth of cocaine use are recounted. Additional copies focused upon are the 1982 drug war, and the laws of 1893 through 1985, Mrs. Reagan's crusade against drug abuse, proposed tests for employees, school searches, and revelations of drug use in sports. The United States military raids in other countries and the smuggling from Asia and Latin American carry the story of attempts to stop drug dealing and consumption to 1986, along with comments from all parts of the Nation.
