Abstract
The first section tabulates figures on registered alcohol consumption in Norway and other foreign countries. The second section deals with establishments licensed for the sale and serving of alcoholic beverages. The section on economic factors related to alcohol consumption covers real price indices for spirits and wine, government revenues from alcohol sales, and consumers' expenditures on alcohol. Damage caused by alcohol and drug use can include deaths and related health costs, HIV infection, and motor vehicle accidents caused by drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The remaining chapters examine crime associated with the use of alcohol or drugs, the care of people with alcohol- and drug- related problems, sales of addictive medicines, and young people's use of alcohol and drugs. 67 tables
