PRESENTS THE ESSENTIAL CONTENT OF A COURSE REQUIRED FOR PERSONS ARRESTED FOR DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED, WHICH IS DESIGNED TO CHANGE THE PATTERN OF DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL.
Abstract
THE FILM IS DRAWN FROM ACTUAL CLASSROOM PRESENTATIONS AND DISCUSSIONS. STATISTICS INDICATING THE LARGE PERCENTAGE OF ALCOHOL RELATED TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS ARE PRESENTED TO PARTICIPANTS, AND A FILM DEPICTING THE INJURIES AND LOSS OF LIFE RESULTING FROM INTOXICATED DRIVING PROVIDES FACTS ABOUT THE VIOLENT CONSEQUENCES THAT CAN RESULT FROM UNREVISED DRIVING PATTERNS IN CLASS PARTICIPANTS. THE EFFECTS OF ALCOHOL ON THE REFLEXES ARE ILLUSTRATED BY THE COURSE INSTRUCTOR. ANONYMOUS PERSONAL DATA QUESTIONNAIRES AND AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL WRITING ASSIGNMENTS ARE USED TO HELP PARTICIPANTS DEVELOP INSIGHT REGARDING THE CAUSES AND EXTENT OF THEIR DRINKING PROBLEM. THE SUCCESS OF THE PROGRAM, WHICH HAS BEEN UNDERWAY ALMOST FOUR YEARS IS MEASURED BY THE REDUCED NUMBER OF REPEAT ARRESTS.
