A COMPACT, INEXPENSIVE AND EASILY APPLIED CASTING KIT CONTAINING PREMEASURED PLASTIC BAGS OF DENTAL STONE, A WATER MEASURING DEVICE, A BULK WATER CARRIER AND RUBBER GLOVES IS INTRODUCED.
Abstract
PLASTER CASTING HAS AN IMPORTANT PLACE IN POLICE WORK, SINCE IT I USED IN COPYING SHOE AND TIRE IMPRESSIONS FOUND IN SUCH PLACES AS FLOWER BEDS, LAWNS, PARKS, BEACHES, VACANT LOTS, ETC. CASTONE DENTAL STONE IS THE MOST SUITABLE BRAND SINCE IT PRODUCES CASTS WHICH HARDEN QUICKLY, CAN WITHSTAND FREEZING TEMPERATURES, NEED ONLY SMALL AMOUNTS OF WATER, AND DO NOT REQUIRE REINFORCING MATERIAL. PLASTIC BAGS SIMPLIFY CASTING: THEY ARE USED AS CONTAINERS OF PREMEASURED DENTAL STONE INSTEAD OF BULKY MIXING BOWLS; BECAUSE MIXING OF THE STONE AND WATER CAN BE DONE BY KNEADING THE PLASTIC BAG; MIXING SPOONS ARE NOT NEEDED IN THE KIT. SINCE THE DENTAL STONE IS PREMEASURED, THE WATER NEEDED TO MIXING IT CAN ALSO BE PREMEASURED. ANY CONTAINER WITH OUNCE MARKINGS (E.G., A BABY BOTTLE) CAN BE USED. THE TRADITIONAL CASTING KITS CONTAIN FIXATIVE AND RELEASE AGENTS; HOWEVER, EXPERIENCE HAS SHOWED THAT THEY ARE NOT NECESSARY. A WATER SPRAYER AND A DRY POWDER SPRAYER SHOULD BE ADDED TO THE KIT TO MAKE CASTS IN WARM WEATHER AND IN THE SNOW, OR ON AN INCLINE. REFERENCES, SOURCES AND COST OF THE EQUIPMENT ARE INCLUDED. THE ABOVE METHOD OF CASTING IS ILLUSTRATED WITH 13 PICTURES.
