IN THIS TEXTBOOK AN ATTEMPT IS MADE TO BUILD MODELS OF CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR BASED ON ECONOMIC ANALYSIS WHICH MAY HELP DESCRIBE AND PREDICT THAT BEHAVIOR AND THE EFFECT OF ENFORCEMENT AND OTHER EFFORTS TO PREVENT IT.
Abstract
GIVEN THE VALIDITY OF THESE MODELS, THE AUTHOR SHOWS HOW THE COMMUNITY MAY DETERMINE THE APPROPRIATE AMOUNT OF RESOURCES IT SHOULD DEVOTE TO THE ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE. THE TEXT IS INTENDED TO SERVE BOTH STUDENTS OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE AND STUDENTS OF ECONOMICS. SPECIFIC TOPICS COVERED IN THE TEXT INCLUDE THE COSTS OF VIOLENT CRIME AND PROPERTY CRIME, EMPIRICAL MEASUREMENTS OF THE COST OF CRIME, AND EMPIRICAL RELATIONSHIPS OF CRIME AND ENFORCEMENT.
