TESTING OF 75 SWEDISH INMATES FROM 18 TO 40 YEARS OLD FOR GENERAL APTITUDE, READING COMPREHENSION, DIFFICULTIES WITH WRITING, WORD COMPREHENSION AND MATHEMATICS, PLUS PERSONALITY ASSESSMENTS.
Abstract
THE SUBJECTS, AS A GROUP, DID NOT DIFFER IN APTITUDE TO ANY SIGNIFICANT EXTENT FROM NORMAL ADULTS WITH AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL EDUCATION OR THE EQUIVALENT. IT WAS FOUND THAT 24 PERCENT OF THE GROUP HAD SERIOUS DIFFICULTIES WITH READING COMPREHENSION AND 7 PERCENT HAD SERIOUS WRITING DIFFICULTIES. WORD COMPREHENSION WAS 7 PERCENT BETTER THAN EXPECTED. THIS WAS ATTITBUTED TO THE FACT THAT ADULTS WERE INCLUDED, AND WORD COMPREHENSION IS KNOWN TO IMPROVE WITH AGE. THE MATHEMATICS TEST SHOWED THAT 25 PERCENT LACKED GROUNDING IN THAT SUBJECT BEYOND THE SIXTH GRADE LEVEL. RESULTS OF THE PERSONALITY ASSESSMENTS SHOWED THAT 24 PERCENT OF THE GROUP WITH AVERAGE OR HIGH INTELLIGENCE SCORED HIGH ON THE TEST FOR NEUROTICISM. --IN SWEDISH
