The Edward Byrne Memorial State and Local Law Enforcement Assistance Program provides Federal assistance in a national campaign against drug abuse and other serious crime.
Abstract
This program is dedicated to the memory of Officer Byrne of the New York State Police Department who was killed by drug offenders while protecting a witness. The program focuses on National drug control priorities and assists State and local governments to address the problems emanating from drug abuse and drug crime. Projects under this Discretionary Grant Program are listed under a number of categories, including drug testing, street-level enforcement, alternative sentencing program, enhanced prosecution, training, demand reduction, and victims. Applications from a broad range of public and private organizations, including those which have not heretofore been grant recipients, is strongly encouraged by the Bureau of Justice Assistance.
