This book describes a problem-solving model that can be used as a guide to developing alcohol education and treatment programs. It is based on the author's many years of experience with alcohol abusers and drinking drivers and consists of a comprehensive program that can be conducted on an outpatient basis with one or two group sessions weekly for less than a year.
Abstract
The book provides detailed discussions of the 10-step program, its exercises, and simulations directed at altering participants' defensive attitudes and fostering a sense of responsibility to change. The program aims to guide the drunk-driving offender from an initially hostile and resistant posture to a lifestyle change that will eliminate drunken driving. It involves confronting defensiveness, changing attitudes, self-diagnosis and goal setting, and motivating. The proposed treatment model can be used in therapeutic, correctional, or educational settings. 25 figures, 8 tables, author and subject indexes, and 285 references.
