STUDY OF THE REACTION OF FAMILIES TO ENFORCED SEPARATION DUE TO THE IMPRISONMENT OF THE HUSBAND, AND AN ATTEMPT TO DISCOVER FACTORS WHICH WOULD HELP PREDICT THE REACTION.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR CONCLUDES THAT ADJUSTMENT DEPENDS LARGELY ON CONDITIONS THAT EXISTED IN THE MARITAL RELATIONSHIP BEFORE THE SEPARATION AND WHICH MAY HAVE PREDISPOSED A FAMILY EITHER TO KEEP THE MARRIAGE INTACT OR TO END AN ALREADY UNSTABLE RELATIONSHIP. THERE IS A DEMORALIZATION WHEN A MAN IS IMPRISONED THAT DOES NOT OCCUR IN OTHER TYPES OF SEPARATION. QUESTIONNAIRES AND INTERVIEWS USED IN GATHERING THE INFORMATION ARE INCLUDED.
