Jeremy Triplett, laboratory manager of the Central Forensic Laboratory in Frankfort, Kentucky, discusses the challenges of backlogs in forensic science in this article from the NIJ "Notes from the Field" series. He says that by establishing policies on the most critical samples to test and maintaining ongoing communication with stakeholders, laboratories can operate more efficiently to manage a backlog. Triplett has overseen training programs, policy and procedure revisions, and internal audits for the Kentucky State Police's seized drugs laboratories. He previously served as president of the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors and chairman of the Organization of Scientific Area Committees Forensic Science Standards Board.
