Abstract
THIS INFORMATION WAS OBTAINED FROM A NUMBER OF SOURCES, INCLUDING LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL, PUBLICATIONS, MANUFACTURERS, AND LABORATORY AND FIELD TEST MEASUREMENTS. THE REPORT DISCUSSES BOTH RADIATING AND NON-RADIATING DEVICES, RECEIVERS, AND TAPE RECORDERS. IT DETAILS LABORATORY AND FIELD TESTS OF BODY-WORN TRANSMITTERS. AND DISCUSSES THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF WIRED SURVEILLANCE SYSTEMS. A DISCUSSION OF THE PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE USE OF THIS EQUIPMENT IS INCLUDED, ALONG WITH AN ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY AND A LIST OF MANUFACTURERS WHO PRODUCE AND SELL THIS TYPE OF EQUIPMENT. WHILE NOT A VOLUNTARY STANDARD PER SE, THIS REPORT DOES DISCUSS ACCEPTABLE LEVELS OF PERFORMANCE AND NECESSARY FEATURES OF ELECTRONIC EAVESDROPPING DEVICES, AND IT SHOULD PROVE HELPFUL IN EVALUATING EQUIPMENT FOR POTENTIAL ACQUISITION.
