Electronic vaulting offers a method of improving computer data security by providing a backup facility off the premises that automatically backs up the data files.
Abstract
Electronic vaulting combines many techniques of database administration, accounting, data communications, and Local Area Network management. Through a facility such as an electronic vault service bureau, critical company files are automatically backed up, thereby eliminating the potential for human error involved in the repetitive task of backing up data. Several produce developers are in the process of offering products to provide electronic vaulting services. However, the ultimate product should conform to a minimum set of requirements. Features should include prompted schedules, intelligent file updating, online help, online condition intelligence, automatic data compression, encryption, graphic depiction of call log and detailed history log, intelligent error recovery, and multiple security levels. Several reports will be available in VAULT- AUDIT-EX in either paper or magnetic form.
