ELECTRONIC CAMPUS SECURITY SYSTEMS EMPLOYED BY THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA ARE DESCRIBED.
Abstract
THE LARGE SIZE OF THE CAMPUS, PLUS THE FACT THAT MANY POTENTIAL THEFT TARGETS ARE LOCATED OFF THE MAIN CAMPUS, MAKE THE USE OF GUARDS ECONOMICALLY PROHIBITIVE. INSTEAD THE UNIVERSITY RELIES UPON AUDIO DETECTORS, VIBRATION DETECTORS, CAPACITANCE SYSTEMS, AND MAGNETIC DOOR SWITCHES ARE EMPLOYED AT WHAT IS SAID TO BE A CONSIDERABLE SAVINGS WHEN COMPARED TO COMPARABLE SECURITY GUARD COVERAGE.
