ILLUSTRATION AND EXPLANATION OF EMERGENCY PLANS OF A NUMBER OF ELECTRIC UTILITIES, AND DEMONSTRATION OF THE INTEREST OF THE ELECTRIC POWER INDUSTRY IN THE PROGRAM.
Abstract
THE DEFENSE ELECTRIC POWER ADMINISTRATION (DEPA) WAS ORGANIZED TO MAINTAIN EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS IN CASE OF NUCLEAR ATTACK OR OTHER EMERGENCY SITUATIONS. THERE ARE 17 DEFENSE ELECTRIC POWER AREAS THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES. CASE STUDIES ARE PRESENTED TO ILLUSTRATE TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF THE INDUSTRIAL CIVIL DEFENSE PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS WHICH VARIOUS ELECTRIC POWER COMPANIES HAVE TAKEN TO IMPROVE THEIR READINESS AGAINST ANY KIND OF DISASTER. TOPICS DISCUSSED INCLUDE EMERGENCY COMMUNICATION, SECURITY OF ELECTRIC PLANTS, TRAINING, POWER POOL PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS, PERSONNEL PROTECTION, AND PROTECTIVE MEASURES AGAINST ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS ON ELECTRIC POWER SYSTEMS.
