This guide from the National Retail Federation (NRF) provides retailers, mall security, and law enforcement with emergency response protocols and guidelines for an active shooter incident.
Abstract
This guide serves to educate companies about active shooters, which have become a serious threat in recent years; provided are the most current strategies to educate employees on how to survive emergency situations, including in-store shootings. This guide contains the most up to date information about emergency response protocols, as recommended by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Included is information on how to analyze the situation and react accordingly, all outlined in a way that serves various types of retailers regardless of size. NRF encourages retailers to use these guidelines as a part of their larger emergency management plan to protect employees and customers. NRF has updated its active shooter emergency response guidelines, which were originally created in 2008 to coincide with the release of DHS' latest online training program, which provide retailers and other private sector employees specific guidelines and protocols on how to respond to an active shooter incident.
