Abstract
The guidelines emphasize that employees should carefully document their actions and any unusual situation that may result in a lawsuit. After being served with documents in a lawsuit, they should immediately take the documents to their supervisor or the legal counsel's office in the correctional facility and fill out all the appropriate forms. The State will provide an attorney through the Attorney General's office. The legal counsel staff will contact the employee if needed while the case is being processed. The State will also pay for judgments against employees who acted in accordance with job requirements. Employees who are sued are not subject to dismissal or other disciplinary action unless they were negligent in carrying out their duties as a State employee.
