This volume presents the proceedings of a conference held in Oklahoma City in June 1988 to bring mental health practitioners together to examine important issues related to the welfare of emotionally disturbed American Indian youths and to improve the continuum of care through interagency networking and coordination.
Abstract
Topics included early intervention and prevention of alcoholism and pregnancy in high-risk American Indian female adolescents, services for high-risk families, the use of child psychiatry teams for identifying and treating emotionally disturbed American Indian children, and the treatment of chemical dependency and emotional disorders with American Indian adolescents. Other topics included community health programs, the self-image of American Indian children, neuropsychological characteristics of emotionally disturbed American Indian adolescents, and the role of traditional American Indian values and approaches in treatment.
