Abstract
CONTAINS ARTICLES BY INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE WORKED WITH ENCOUNTER GROUPS AND PROVIDES DIFFERENT VIEWPOINTS ON THIS RELATIVELY NEW FORM OF MENTAL THERAPY. THE THEORIES BEHIND ENCOUNTER GROUPS, AS WELL AS THEIR GOALS, AND THE TECHNIQUES TO BE USED IN CONDUCTING THEM ARE ALL COVERED. NUMEROUS SPECIFIC EXAMPLES ARE USED THROUGHOUT THE BOOK TO ILLUSTRATE THE AUTHORS' POINTS. METHODS DISCUSSED HAVE POSSIBLE APPLICATION TO WORKING WITH INMATES, PAROLEES, JUVENILES, DRUG ADDICTS, ETC. ONE ADVANTAGE IS THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE DEALT WITH SIMULTANEOUSLY, BY LEARNING FROM THE THERAPY OF OTHERS WITHIN THE GROUP.
