Abstract
THE AUTHOR DEALS WITH AREAS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT AND COURT PROCEEDINGS WHICH HAVE BEEN THE SUBJECTS OF RECENT LEGISLATION AND GENERAL INTEREST IN ENGLAND. THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE ACT IS CONSIDERED ONE OF THE MAJOR REFORMING MEASURES. CHANGES IN COMMITTAL PROCEEDINGS, MAJORITY VERDICTS OF JURIES, BAIL, INTRODUCTION OF SUSPENDED SENTENCES, ENFORCEMENT OF FINES, RELEASE OF PRISONERS ON PAROLE, BETTER PROVISIONS FOR LEGAL AID, AND AN INCREASE OF MAXIMUM FINES FOR A LARGE NUMBER OF OFFENSES ARE DISCUSSED.
