Abstract
THIS STUDY IS DIVIDED INTO THREE PARTS. PART I EXAMINES THE EARLY HISTORY, ESSENTIAL FEATURES AND APPLICATION OF THE ENGLISH COMMON CONFESSION RULE. PART II EXPLORES SOME OF THE MAJOR ISSUES, INCLUDING MISAPPLICATION OF THE VOLUNTARY TERMINOLOGY AND CONFESSION RELIABILITY. THE FINAL SECTION ANALYZES THREE CONFESSION CASES DECIDED BETWEEN 1883 AND 1895 BY THE UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
