Rural areas face many of the same crime problems as urban areas, including gangs and drug trafficking, and the Office of Justice Programs (OJP) provides assistance to rural jurisdictions to reduce crime and improve public safety.
Abstract
OJP funding, demonstration programs, research, training, technical assistance, and other resources designed to help rural communities address crime and improve criminal justice services are described. OJP programs and activities are organized according to the Office of the Assistant Attorney General, Bureau of Justice Assistance, Bureau of Justice Statistics, National Institute of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, and Office for Victims of Crime. OJP programs and activities focus on violence against women, drug courts, corrections, Operation Weed and Seed, victimization, criminal history improvement, tribal case management, police-research partnerships, technology, community crime prevention, juvenile accountability, juvenile mentoring, drug and alcohol prevention, victim assistance, and victim compensation. Additional information on OJP initiatives is provided in three appendixes.
