Training initiatives of the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General that focus on environmental protection and law enforcement are described.
Abstract
The manual recognizes that threats to the environment are complex and serious problems and that certain environmental crimes must be dealt with as criminal offenses. It is designed to help police officers, fire officials, conservation commission, boards of health, and other officials who are involved in identifying and prosecuting environmental crimes. The manual covers hazardous waste and materials, solid waste, wetlands protection, water pollution and sewage, air pollution, asbestos, lead paint, workplace offenses, and prosecutorial issues. A telephone directory of Massachusetts offices and organizations involved in environmental matters is included. Appendixes contain additional information on environmental statutes in Massachusetts, as well as a sample search warrant and a sample affidavit for use in prosecuting environmental crimes.
