Abstract
The guide covers a wide range of topics but the emphasis throughout the guide is on the safe use of combat handguns as a defensive tool. Chapter 1 dispels gun myths and discusses the second amendment to the United States Constitution that mandates the right of individual citizens to keep and bear firearms. Chapter 2 offers information on how individuals can take responsibility for their own safety and the safety of their family, primarily through learning about responsible firearm use. Chapter 3 provides a discussion of the types of individuals who are not suited to gun ownership, such as individuals who lack impulse control and individuals who have been convicted of violent felonies. Chapter 4 presents advice on how to psychologically prepare for gun ownership, such as through learning the local laws and making safety changes around the home, while chapter 5 describes basic technical self-protection tools and how to use them, such as flashlights, pens, and keys. Chapter 6 reviews the basics of how to choose, handle, and maintain a handgun, which begins by purchasing quality equipment, and chapter 7 describes different types of ammunition and how to choose the right ammunition for the handgun and for the intended purpose. Chapter 8 presents information specific to revolvers while chapter 9 focuses on semi-automatic pistols, offering advice on how to clean and maintain these weapons. Chapter 10 describes different types of holsters and lists holster manufacturers while chapters 11 and 12 present tips for safe handgun operation, range procedures, shooting procedures, and survival procedures.
