Abstract
THE SERIES OF APPENDICES ARE ACTUALLY THE HEART OF THE DOCUMENT. THEY COVER THE CONSTRUCTION OF A SAMPLE CODING MANUAL, THE CONSTRUCTION OF SAMPLE CODING SHEETS, OFFENSE RANKING INSTRUCTIONS FOR JUDGES, AND INSTRUCTIONAL BOOKLETS TO BE USED FOR THE CALCULATION OF GUIDELINE SENTENCES. THESE BOOKLETS COVER GENERAL GUIDELINES AS WELL AS GENERIC MODELS FOR VIOLENT CRIMES, PROPERTY CRIMES, AND DRUG-RELATED CRIMES. THE TEXT EXPLAINS THE DATA NEEDED FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF SENTENCING GUIDELINES, CHOOSING AND DEVELOPING THE MODEL, AND IMPLEMENTING THE SENTENCING GRID AND RESULTING GUIDELINES. THE MANUAL IS AMPLY ILLUSTRATED WITH SAMPLE DATA COLLECTION INSTRUMENTS, EXAMPLES OF COMPUTER PROGRAMS, AND SAMPLE INPUTS INTO THE PROGRAM. REFERENCES ARE APPENDED.
