Annotation

This study compares severity of case disposition for Anglo, black and Mexican origin burglary and robbery defendants in two metropolitan jurisdictions in the southwestern United States.

Abstract

Both the additive effects of the race variables and their interactions with other determinants of sentence severity were considered. Substantial evidence of discrimination in both additive and interactive models was obtained for one jurisdiction, but the evidence of discrimination was considerably weaker for the other. Jurisdictional differences which may explain this contrast are discussed. (Author abstract)
