An experimental study with 136 five-year-old kindergarten children in 4 schools in Quebec, Canada used a simulation game designed to teach children to obey certain traffic safety rules.
Abstract
The simulation used role playing/group dynamics and behavior modeling and training. The study used a post-test-only control group design because a pre-test might have provided participants with knowledge that would influence their reaction to the instruments. Within each classroom, subjects were randomly divided into four groups: three intervention groups and one control group. Each of the experimental groups was subjected to a different intervention, with outcome measured using three instruments that measured attitudes, behavior, and transfer of learning of pedestrian traffic safety. The results suggested that these types of simulation games can change attitudes and modify behavior in the area of pedestrian traffic safety in children of this age. Tables and 22 references.
