This evaluation profiles the population and studies the recidivism rate for Florida's three community-based, residential group treatment (GT) programs for juvenile delinquents not requiring the more intensive security and isolation of the state's training schools.
Abstract
Other ERIC documents describe the smaller (serving 7-25 youths) positive peer culture programs of Halfway Houses, START (Short Term Adolescent Residential Treatment) centers, and Group Treatment Homes (GTH) that are the collective focus of this report. Here, recidivism is shown as an incomplete but still primary measure of rehabilitation success. The random sample of 1973 GR furlough (parole) lists compares recidivism, in-program experience, demographic and juvenile justice backgrounds with the 1972 sample. Recidivism rates for both years are similar, as is the elapsed time between serious offenses. Neither in-program nor background experience show a significant relationship to recidivism. The goals for future studies conclude the report. (Resources in Education (ERIC) abstract)
