EVALUATION OF A COMMUNITY-BASED RESIDENTIAL ALTERNATIVE TO YOUNG ADULT OFFENDER INCARCERATION; THE EVALUATION FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS ARE BASED ON ON-SITE VISITS AND INTERVIEWS WITH REFERRAL SOURCES.
Abstract
THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF GRUBSTAKE, INC., OPERATING IN PENNSYLVANIA, IS TO PROVIDE A MORE EFFECTIVE INTEGRATION OF RELEASED OFFENDERS INTO THE COMMUNITY BY PROVIDING MORE STRUCTURE AND SUPPORT THAN PROBATION ALONE. THE PROGRAM IS EFFECTED THROUGH AN INDIVIDUALIZED APPROACH WHICH INCLUDES TUTORING, GROUP OR INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING, AND DEVELOPMENT OF SOCIAL AND OCCUPATIONAL SKILLS. THE RECOMMENDATIONS REPORTED HERE COVER THE AREAS OF INTERFACE WITH REFERRAL SOURCES, STREAMLINING INTAKE PROCEDURES, IMPROVING PERSONAL ADJUSTMENT COUNSELING, PROVIDING AN EDUCATION SPECIALIST AND A RECREATION DIRECTOR, AND UPGRADING THE VOCATIONAL PREPARATION EFFORT.
