The National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign was initiated in 1998 to provide drug education for young people and to prevent young people from initiating drug use, especially marijuana and inhalants.
Abstract
The Office of National Drug Control Policy conducted the media campaign in three phases, with an evaluation component for each phase. The first phase was a 26-week pilot test conducted between January and June 1998 in 12 metropolitan areas. The second phase, conducted between July 1998 and July 1999, involved the release of the media campaign to a national audience. The third phase, which began in September 1999, marked the full implementation of the media campaign. The evaluation of the media campaign will focus on whether the media campaign is getting its messages to the target populations as intended, what impact the media campaign is having on changes in outcomes, and lessons learned that will support further decision-making on the media campaign. An appendix lists strategic goals and objectives of the 1999 National Drug Control Strategy. References, tables, and figures
