EVALUATIONS OF CORRECTIONAL METHODS HAVE BEEN PREOCCUPIED WITH THE REHABILITATIVE OBJECTIVES OF TREATMENT TO THE EXCLUSION OF OTHER OBJECTIVES AND OF THE NATURE OF THE TREATMENT PROCESS.
Abstract
FUTURE CORRECTIONAL EVALUATIONS WILL CONCENTRATE MORE ON THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COSTS OF PENAL MEASURES, THEIR CAPACITY FOR GENERAL DETERRENCE, PROTECTION OF THE PUBLIC FROM RECIDIVISTS, AND SATISFYING THE REQUIREMENTS OF HUMANITY AND JUSTICE. INSTEAD OF RESEARCH BASED ON A SINGLE DESIGN, LASTING SEVERAL YEARS, AND AIMED AT ESTABLISHING THE SUPERIORITY OF A CERTAIN TREATMENT METHOD, STUDIES WILL TAKE THE FORM OF A SERIES OF SMALL-SCALE PROJECTS EACH CONCERNED WITH A PARTICULAR ASPECT OF THE TREATMENT PROCESS. --IN ITALIAN.
