This report from the Delaware Office of Management and Budget presents the results of an evaluation of the Weed and Seed program established in the Price's Run neighborhood in Wilmington, DE.
Abstract
In 2006, the Weed and Seed program in the Price's Run neighborhood of Wilmington, DE, received initial funding of $650,000 through the U.S. Department of Justice's Community Capacity Development Office. These initial funds allowed the Wilmington Police Department to hire a Weed and Seed program coordinator, enabled the local boys and girls club to remain open late on weekends, fund academic enrichment programs at the Wilmington Job Corps Center, fund drug and delinquency, and anti-violence programs, and hire a dedicated part-time probation officer. This report from the Delaware Office of Management and Budget highlights the work of the Weed and Seed program established in the Price's Run neighborhood of Wilmington, DE. The report includes an examination of the overall Weed and Seed program in the city of Wilmington from 1992 through 2006, and then presents an overview of the program established in Price's Run. Detailed data are presented on violent and illicit drug crimes in Wilmington from 2004 through 2009, along with statistics on the convictions and sentencing outcomes for offenders arrested for violent and illicit drug crimes through the Weed and Seed program.
