A PROJECT WHICH PROVIDES A VARIETY OF COURT RELATED SERVICES TO RESIDENTS OF CITY AND STATE DETENTION AND CORRECTION FACILITIES.
Abstract
THE STAFF OF THIS PRISONER LIAISON UNIT RECEIVES, REVIEWS, AND ADJUDICATES REQUESTS FOR CREDIT, REPRODUCES AND FORWARDS NOTES OF TESTIMONY AND OTHER COURT RECORDS, AND INVESTIGATES AND REMOVES IMPROPERLY OR ILLEGALLY LODGED DETAINERS. IT ALSO ACTS ON OR REFERS MANY OTHER KINDS OF PRISONER REQUESTS. THE EVALUATION RESULTS SHOW THAT THE UNIT HAS SUCCESSFULLY ALLEVIATED PRISONER TENSIONS BY REDRESSING LEGITIMATE GRIEVANCES THROUGH ITS VARIOUS PROGRAMS. THE PRISONER LIAISON UNIT HAS SUCCEEDED IN DIVERTING NUMEROUS PETITIONS FROM THE COURT COLLECTION PROCEDURES AND THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A SIMILAR STATE-WIDE PROGRAM. A PROPOSAL FOR SUCH AN ENLARGED PROGRAM APPEARS IN APPENDIX A.
