PROJECT TO MEASURE THE IMPACT OF MILWAUKEE'S MOBILE POLICE COMMUNITY RELATIONS UNIT ON RECRUITING, TRAINING, VISITORS FROM SCHOOLS AND CLUBS, AND MINORITY GROUPS
Abstract
EVALUATION TEAM FOUND THAT THE VAN HAD LITTLE VALUE FOR SPECIAL TRAINING PROGRAMS, BUT THAT IT HAD CHANGED THE ATTITUDES OF MANY YOUNG PEOPLE TOWARD THE POLICE, LEADING SOME TO CONSIDER LAW ENFORCEMENT CAREERS. ANALYSIS OF DATA FROM A SAMPLE OF VIEWERS INDICATED THAT THE PROGRAM WAS MOST EFFECTIVE IN ITS PUBLIC RELATIONS TASK, INCREASING COMMUNICATION AND UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE POLICE AND VARIOUS SEGMENTS OF THE URBAN COMMUNITY.
