A DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTIVITIES AND EFFECTIVENESS OF PROGRAMS UNDERTAKEN BY THIS PROJECT WHICH IS DESIGNED TO REDUCE THE OFFICIAL INVOLVEMENT OF THE STATE IN THE STATUS CRIMES OF MINORS.
Abstract
THE SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES WHICH REFLECT SAY'S GOAL CAN BE SUMMARIZED AS FOLLOWS: THE REDUCTION OF ARRESTS, PETITIONS AND COURT WARDSHIPS MADE PURSUANT TO SECTION 601 OF THE WELFARE AND INSTITUTIONS CODE OF CALIFORNIA. DISCUSSED IN THIS REPORT ARE THE 601 DIVERSION PROJECT, GENERAL YOUTH REFERRALS, THE ONE TO ONE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM, RESIDENTIAL CARE PROGRAMS, AND COMMUNITY CONSULTATION. STATISTICS ON STATE PROCESSING OF THESE STATUS CRIMES ARE PROVIDED, AND THESE INDICATE A DRAMATIC DECREASE IN STATUS CRIME ARRESTS. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT SAY HAS SUBSTANTIALLY ACHIEVED THE GOALS IT ESTABLISHED IN ITS OFFICE OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE PLANNING CONTRACT, AND HAS DEMONSTRATED EFFECTIVENESS AS A VIABLE ALTERNATIVE TO OFFICIAL STATE PROCESSING OF STATUS CRIMES.
