THIS STUDY INDICATED THAT CHANGES IN SELF-CONCEPT AND SOCIAL ATTITUDE DID NOT RESULT FROM INVOLVEMENT IN THREE SHORT-TERM PROGRAMS FOR JUVENILE DELINQUENTS, TO WHICH THEY WERE ARBITRARILY ASSIGNED.
Abstract
ALL SUBJECTS WERE PRE AND POST-TESTED AT THE BEGINNING AND END OF EACH OF THE THREE PROGRAMS STUDIED. TEST INSTRUMENTS USED WERE: THE JESNESS INVENTORY AND A VARIATION OF THE OSGOOD SEMANTIC DIFFERENTIAL. THE AUTHOR CONCLUDES THAT THE RESEARCH STRONGLY IMPLIES THAT CHANGE IN A DELINQUENT ADOLESCENT'S PERCEPTION OF HIMSELF AND HIS ENVIRONMENT IS SLOW TO MATERIALIZE. THE STUDY FURTHER SUGGESTS THAT ADJUDICATED DELINQUENTS RESTRICTED TO PROGRAMS INVOLVING OTHER DELINQUENTS SUBGROUPS ARE NOT MOTIVATED TO POSITIVE CHANGE IN SELF OR SOCIAL ATTITUDE. ...RCB
