Abstract
THE METHODOLOGY FOR THIS STUDY INVOLVED A SURVEY OF LITERATURE, LEGISLATIVE REVIEW, REVIEW OF NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF MENTAL HEALTH DOCUMENTS, REGIONAL OFFICE INTERVIEWS, QUESTIONNAIRE SURVEY, FIELD VISITS, AND A CONFERENCE. A SUMMARY OF FINDINGS COVER NUMBERS AND TYPES OF CLIENTS, GENERAL, DIRECT, AND INDIRECT SERVICES, CATEGORIZATION OF DELINQUENTS, DIAGNOSIS OF DELINQUENTS, REFERRAL SOURCES, STAFF, RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER AGENCIES, FUNDING, AND LEGISLATIVE MANDATE. RECOMMENDATIONS ARE MADE FOR GUIDELINES FOR ESTABLISHING COLLABORATIVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM, LEAA AND STATE RELATIONSHIPS, COLLABORATION AMONG ALCOHOL, DRUG ABUSES AND MENTAL HEALTH-FUNDED (ADAMHA) PROGRAMS, STATEGIC MODELS FOR ESTABLISHING A ROLE IN THE JUVENILE DELINQUENCY FIELD, AND SUGGESTIONS FOR NATIONAL PROGRAM ADMINISTRATORS.
