A METHODOLOGICAL MODEL FOR THE EVALUATION OF TRAINING PLANS FOR CORRECTIONAL PERSONNEL IS PRESENTED.
Abstract
OBJECTIVES, CRITERIA, AND TECHNIQUES FOR THE SCIENTIFIC EVALUATION OR EVALUATIVE INVESTIGATIONS, OF AN IDEAL CURRICULUM FOR TRAINING PROFESSIONAL AND PARAPROFESSIONAL WORKERS IN CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS (HUMAN RESOURCES FOR SOCIAL REINTEGRATION CENTERS) ARE DETAILED IN THIS METHODOLOGICAL MODEL. ACCORDING TO THE MODEL, THE INVESTIGATIVE EVALUATION MUST SATISFY THE CRITERIA OF OBJECTIVITY, ACCURACY, AND VIABILITY. IDEALLY, OBJECTIVES MUST BE CLEARLY ESTABLISHED IN TERMS OF WHAT IS EXPECTED OF THE SUCCESSFUL TRAINEES: WHETHER THEY ARE INTENDED TO BE PRISON GUARDS, DISCIPLINARIANS, TORTURERS, OR AGENTS FOR REHABILITATION AND SOCIAL REINTEGRATION OF THEIR CHARGES; WHETHER THEY WILL BE ABLE TO USE WHAT THEY LEARNED IN ACTUAL WORKING ENVIRONMENTS; WHAT ARE THE IDEAL PERSONAL TRAITS, ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS, AND GENERAL BACKGROUNDS OF BOTH PROFESSIONAL AND SUBPROFESSIONAL PERSONNEL; AND WHAT KIND OF CURRICULUM SHOULD BE TAUGHT. SUGGESTIONS FOR THE CONTENT OF THE CURRICULUM INCLUDE TRADITIONAL ACADEMIC SUBJECTS (PSYCHOLOGY, CRIMINOLOGY, HUMAN RELATIONS, PENAL LAW) TAUGHT AT THE COLLEGE LEVEL FOR PROFESSIONALS AND AT THE 'SUB-COLLEGE' LEVEL FOR PARAPROFESSIONALS; THESE SUBJECTS MUST BE TAILORED TO THE CLIENTELE THE TRAINEES WILL SERVE (E.G., ADULTS, JUVENILES). A COMPARATIVE APPROACH (AT THE NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL LEVEL) FOR THE EVALUATION IS RECOMMENDED. A BIBLIOGRAPHY, A METHODOLOGICAL MODEL, AND A TENTATIVE EVALUATION SCHEME ARE APPENDED.
