FINAL EVALUATION REPORT OF THE LINCOLN-LANCASTER (NE) MUNICIPAL COURT'S VOLUNTEER PROBATION COUNSELOR PROGRAM CONTAINING THE FINAL REPORTS OF FIVE DISTINCT BUT INTERRELATED STUDIES OF PROGRAM OPERATION.
Abstract
STUDIES WERE CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE PROGRAM, TO OBTAIN A PROFILE OF A SUCCESSFUL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE PROBATIONER AND COUNSELOR, TO GATHER INFORMATION ABOUT PARAMETERS OF PROGRAM OPERATION, TO DEVELOP PREDICTIONS OF THE OCCURRENCE OF CRIMES DURING THE PROBATIONARY PERIOD, AND TO TEST THE EFFICIENCY OF DECISION-MAKING PROCEDURES. RESULTS PROVIDE STRONG EVIDENCE THAT VOLUNTEER PROBATION COUNSELING IS EFFECTIVE AS A CRIME-REDUCING AND REHABILITATIVE PROGRAM WHEN COMPARED WITH ROUTINE PROBATION PROGRAMMING.
