This report presents recommendations intended to be used as a starting point for juvenile drug courts in Louisiana that want to improve the screening and assessment, treatment, and outcome monitoring aspects of their court, as well as to encourage continued movement toward evidence-based practices (EBPs) within the State's juvenile drug courts.
Abstract
Juvenile drug courts are encouraged to use these recommendations to conduct a self-evaluation of the assessment, treatment, and outcome monitoring of their court, and then to use the results of the assessment as a basis for identifying and implementing strategies to further strengthen their programs. The recommendations emulate the assessment, treatment, and program monitoring characteristics of a "model" juvenile drug court and reflect the goals of the Louisiana Supreme Court Drug Court Office, which were developed as part of its Models for Change project. The recommendations are organized by chapter. Within each chapter, an overview of the topical area is provided, followed by a series of recommendations related to the topical area. A detailed discussion of each recommendation is included, along with examples of strategies and approaches that could be considered. Given the treatment orientation of many of the recommendations, the courts may want to share this guide with their treatment team and consult with them in discussing the recommendations and examples. 15 references and appended suggested data elements
